Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

a

When a diode can be acts as a rectifier?

2 marks

Answer

A diode acts as a rectifier when it is operated in its non-linear region, allowing current to flow in one direction (forward bias) while blocking it in the opposite direction (reverse bias), thereby converting alternating current (AC) into pulsating direct current (DC).

b

What is forward bias and reverse bias conditions of a diode?

3 marks

Answer

Forward bias occurs when the positive terminal of an external voltage source is connected to the p-type region and the negative terminal to the n-type region, reducing the potential barrier and allowing current to flow. Reverse bias occurs when the positive terminal is connected to the n-type region and the negative terminal to the p-type region, increasing the potential barrier and preventing current flow, except for a negligible leakage current.

c

If the output of a transistor amplifier is 5 V rms and the input is 100 mV rms, find voltage gain?
