Answer PaperPaper Code: 128DKMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART - A

125 marks
a

Define the term Isotopes, Isobars and Isotones.

2 marks

Answer

Isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same atomic number but different mass numbers due to varying neutron counts. Isobars are atoms of different elements with the same mass number but different atomic numbers. Isotones are atoms of different elements having the same number of neutrons.

b

Write the properties of electrons, protons and neutrons.

3 marks

Answer

Protons have a positive charge (+1.602 x 10^-19 C) and a mass of approximately 1.007 amu. Neutrons are electrically neutral with a mass of approximately 1.008 amu. Electrons carry a negative charge (-1.602 x 10^-19 C) and possess a negligible mass of approximately 0.00055 amu.
