B.Tech | II Year | II-I | R15 | September/October - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 123CHMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

State Ohm’s Law.

2 marks

Answer

Ohm's Law states that the current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across its ends, provided the temperature and other physical conditions remain constant.

V = I × R
b

What is the need of starter for DC motors?

3 marks

Answer

A starter is required for DC motors because at the moment of starting, the back EMF is zero. Since the armature resistance is very low, the motor would draw an excessively high current, which could damage the armature windings. The starter introduces external resistance to limit this starting current to a safe value until the motor gains speed.
