JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II MINE MECHANISATION-I Previous Question Paper (April - 2018 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Define coupling.
Answer
A coupling is a mechanical device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power from a driving unit to a driven unit, while allowing for slight misalignment or end movement.
Mention the purpose of Clutch.
Answer
The clutch serves to connect and disconnect the engine from the transmission system. It allows the engine to run without driving the load, facilitates smooth starting of the machine, and enables gear changing without stopping the prime mover.

An endless haulage operates on a roadway 800 m long dipping at 1 in 15 and draws 605 tonnes of coal a shift (1 shift = 7.5 hrs. effective time). The loads weigh 1505 kgf each and the empties 505 kgf. The rope weighs 3 kgf/m, tub friction is 1/50 and rope friction is 1/10. Speed of the rope is 4 km/hr. Estimate the power required at the surge wheel. The loads are pulled up the gradient.
