JNTU B.Tech III MINE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING I Previous Question Paper (January/February - 2023 - R13)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What is the difference between atmospheric air and mine air?
Answer
Atmospheric air is fresh air containing approximately 20.95% oxygen, 79.05% nitrogen, and 0.03% carbon dioxide. Mine air is atmospheric air that has been modified by underground processes, resulting in reduced oxygen levels, increased concentrations of gases like methane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide, and the presence of dust and moisture.
What is the origin of mine air?
Answer
Mine air originates from the surface atmosphere, which is drawn into the mine workings through the main intake shafts or adits by mechanical ventilation systems or natural ventilation pressure. Once inside, its composition is altered by respiration of personnel, combustion of explosives, oxidation of coal and minerals, strata gas emissions, and the operation of diesel machinery.
