JNTU B.Tech IV METROLOGY INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS Previous Question Paper (November/December - 2018 - R15)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
What is accuracy?
Answer
Accuracy is the degree of closeness of a measured value to the true or accepted standard value of the quantity being measured. It indicates the systematic error present in an instrument and reflects how well the measurement represents the actual physical reality.
What are the types of drift?
Answer
Drift in an instrument is the variation in the output for a constant input over a period of time. It is generally classified into three types:
- Zero Drift: This occurs when the entire calibration curve shifts by the same amount, causing the output to change even when the input is zero. It is often caused by thermal expansion or mechanical stresses.
- Span Drift (Sensitivity Drift): This happens when the slope of the calibration curve changes, meaning the instrument's sensitivity varies over time. The output change is proportional to the input magnitude.
- Zonal Drift: This is a combination of both zero and span drift, where the calibration curve shifts and changes slope simultaneously, often occurring in different ranges of the instrument's operation.
