B.Tech | III | I | R15 | November/December - 2017

Answer PaperPaper Code: 125CWMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define the desired dynamic characteristics of an instrument.

2 marks

Answer

The desired dynamic characteristics of an instrument include fast response (minimal time lag), high fidelity (faithful reproduction of input), and stability (absence of oscillations or undesirable transients) during changes in the measured variable.

b

Define: Accuracy, Sensitivity, Reproducibility.

3 marks

Answer

Accuracy is the closeness with which an instrument reading approaches the true value of the variable being measured. Sensitivity is the ratio of the change in output of the instrument to the change in the input variable. Reproducibility is the degree of closeness with which a given value may be repeatedly measured under the same operating conditions.

c

Define thermocouple and thermopile.
