JNTU B.Tech III PETROLEUM EXPLORATION METHODS Previous Question Paper (May - 2018 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
What are the clastic and carbonate rocks?
Answer
Clastic rocks are sedimentary rocks composed of fragments (clasts) of pre-existing minerals and rock particles, such as sandstone and shale. Carbonate rocks are sedimentary rocks primarily composed of carbonate minerals, mainly calcite or dolomite, such as limestone and dolostone, often formed through biological or chemical precipitation.
Give a brief note on the Biostratigraphic zone.
Answer
A biostratigraphic zone (biozone) is a fundamental unit of biostratigraphy defined by the presence, abundance, or range of specific fossil taxa. These zones are used to correlate rock strata across different geographic locations and determine the relative geological age of sedimentary sequences based on the evolutionary succession of life forms.
