Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad B.Tech III NATURAL GAS PROCESSING Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
Write a sources of Natural gas and its impurities
Answer
Natural gas is sourced from conventional gas reservoirs, associated gas from oil wells, and unconventional sources like shale gas, coal bed methane, and tight gas. Common impurities include water vapor, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2), mercury, and heavier hydrocarbons.
What are the natural gas compositions?
Answer
Natural gas is primarily composed of methane (CH4, typically 70-90%), followed by ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), butane (C4H10), and smaller amounts of pentane and heavier hydrocarbons. It also contains non-hydrocarbon gases such as CO2, N2, H2S, and trace amounts of helium and water vapor.
