JNTU B.Tech III PETROLEUM RESERVOIR ENGINEERING Previous Question Paper (May - 2019 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
PART - A
Write in short about porosity and its types.
Answer
Porosity is the ratio of the pore volume to the bulk volume of a rock. It is classified as primary porosity, which forms during the deposition of the rock, and secondary porosity, which develops after deposition due to processes like fracturing, dissolution, or dolomitization.
What are the parameters required for calculation of oil in place, give a brief description?
Answer
The calculation of Stock Tank Oil Initially In Place (STOIIP) requires the following parameters:
- Bulk Volume (V): The total volume of the reservoir rock.
- Porosity (φ): The fraction of the rock volume available for fluid storage.
- Water Saturation (Sw): The fraction of pore space occupied by water.
- Formation Volume Factor (Bo): The factor converting reservoir oil volume to surface oil volume.

An oil reservoir exist at its bubble point pressure of 3000 psia and temperature of 160°F. The oil has an API gravity of 42° and gas oil ratio of 600 scf/stb. The Specific gravity of the solution gas is 0.65. The following additional data are also available:
Reservoir Area = 640 acres
Average Thickness = 10 ft
Connate water saturation = 0.25
Effective porosity = 15%
Oil Volume formation factor (β0)= 1.306 bbl/STB
