JNTU B.Tech IV ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY TECHNIQUES Previous Question Paper (November/December - 2018 - R15)
Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
Write a short note on the primary oil recovery.
Answer
Primary oil recovery is the initial stage of production where oil is recovered using the reservoir's natural energy. This energy comes from mechanisms such as fluid expansion, solution gas drive, water drive, or gravity drainage, which push the oil to the wellbore without the need for external injection.
What is the mechanism in Inert gas injection?
Answer
Inert gas injection (such as nitrogen or flue gas) functions primarily through pressure maintenance and gas cap expansion. The gas displaces oil by reducing oil viscosity through partial extraction of light hydrocarbons and by providing a gas drive mechanism to push oil toward production wells, often improving recovery in reservoirs where waterflooding is ineffective.
