JNTU MCA 2023 OPERATING SYSTEMS Previous Question Paper (March - 2023 - R22)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. i) PART-A for 10 marks, ii) Part-B for 50 marks. Part-A is a compulsory question which consists of ten sub-questions from all units carrying equal marks. Part-B consists of ten questions (numbered from 2 to 11) carrying 10 marks each. From each unit, there are two questions and the student should answer one of them. Hence, the student should answer five questions from Part-B.
PART - A
What are the goals of an operating system?
Answer
The primary goals of an operating system are to provide a convenient environment for the user to execute programs, to manage computer hardware resources efficiently, and to ensure the system operates in an orderly and controlled manner.
Define the term Multiprogramming.
Answer
Multiprogramming is a technique that increases CPU utilization by organizing jobs so that the CPU always has one to execute, keeping multiple programs in memory simultaneously.

Following is the snapshot of a CPU: Process, CPU Burst, Arrival Time, Priority: P1(8, 4, 2), P2(12, 1, 5), P3(16, 2, 4), P4(5, 3, 3), P5(20, 0, 1). Draw the Gantt chart and calculate the turnaround time and waiting time of the jobs for FCFS (First Come First Served), SJF (Shortest Job First), SRTF (Shortest Remaining Time First) and RR (Round Robin with time quantum 5) and priority scheduling algorithms.
