On Jan 01, 2021, Kiran bakery had assets of Rs. 8,50,000 and liabilities of Rs. 6,70,000. On December 31, 2021, the business had assets of Rs. 9,90,000 and liabilities of Rs. 7,10,000. During 2021 Kiran invested capital of Rs. 3,50,000 and withdrew Rs. 2,45,000. Compute Kiran Bakery’s net profit or net loss using accounting equation.

Answer

To find the net profit or loss, we first determine the opening and closing capital using the accounting equation: Assets = Liabilities + Capital, or Capital = Assets - Liabilities.

1. Opening Capital (Jan 01, 2021) = 8,50,000 - 6,70,000 = Rs. 1,80,000.

2. Closing Capital (Dec 31, 2021) = 9,90,000 - 7,10,000 = Rs. 2,80,000.

The relationship between opening and closing capital is: Closing Capital = Opening Capital + Additional Capital + Net Profit - Drawings. Rearranging to solve for Net Profit:

Net Profit = Closing Capital - Opening Capital - Additional Capital + Drawings

Net Profit = 2,80,000 - 1,80,000 - 3,50,000 + 2,45,000 = -5,000.

Since the result is negative, Kiran Bakery incurred a Net Loss of Rs. 5,000.
