a

What is flowchart? Explain different symbols used for flowchart.

5 marks

Answer

A flowchart is a graphical representation of an algorithm or a step-by-step process used to solve a problem. It uses standard symbols connected by arrows to show the flow of control.

  • Oval (Terminal): Represents the start or end of a program.
  • Parallelogram (Input/Output): Used for data input or displaying output.
  • Rectangle (Process): Represents arithmetic operations or data manipulation.
  • Diamond (Decision): Used for logical conditions that result in a path split (e.g., Yes/No).
  • Arrows (Flow lines): Indicate the direction of the process flow.
b

Explain continue and break statements in C.

5 marks

Answer

The break statement is used to terminate the execution of the nearest enclosing loop (for, while, do-while) or switch statement immediately, transferring control to the next statement after the block. The continue statement skips the remaining code inside the current iteration of a loop and forces the program to jump to the next iteration of the loop.
