Answer PaperPaper Code: 881ADMaximum Marks: 60Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. i) PART-A for 10 marks, ii) Part-B for 50 marks. Part-A is a compulsory question which consists of ten sub-questions from all units carrying equal marks. Part-B consists of ten questions (numbered from 2 to 11) carrying 10 marks each. From each unit, there are two questions and the student should answer one of them. Hence, the student should answer five questions from Part-B.

PART - A

a

What are the goals of an operating system?

1 marks

Answer

The primary goals of an operating system are to provide a convenient environment for the user to execute programs, to manage computer hardware resources efficiently, and to ensure the system operates in an orderly and controlled manner.

b

Define the term Multiprogramming.

1 marks

Answer

Multiprogramming is a technique that increases CPU utilization by organizing jobs so that the CPU always has one to execute, keeping multiple programs in memory simultaneously.
