What is DBMS? List the advantages of DBMS.
Answer
A Database Management System (DBMS) is a software suite designed to store, retrieve, define, and manage data in a database. It acts as an interface between the database and end-users or application programs, ensuring data is consistently organized and easily accessible.
Advantages of DBMS include:
- Data Redundancy Control: Eliminates duplicate data by centralizing storage.
- Data Consistency: Reduces inconsistencies by ensuring that changes are reflected across all instances of the data.
- Data Sharing: Allows multiple users and applications to access the same data simultaneously.
- Improved Security: Provides mechanisms to restrict unauthorized access and enforce data privacy.
- Data Integrity: Enforces integrity constraints to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
Explain about the logical connectives in SQL.
Answer
Logical connectives in SQL are used to combine multiple conditions in a WHERE clause to filter data based on complex criteria. The primary connectives are:
- AND: Returns a record if all conditions separated by AND are true.
- OR: Returns a record if any one of the conditions separated by OR is true.
- NOT: Reverses the result of a condition, returning true if the condition is false.
These operators allow for precise data retrieval by evaluating boolean expressions against the rows in a table.
