Main
Explain functional blocks of IOT.
Answer
The functional blocks of an IoT system represent the essential components required for the system to operate, collect data, process information, and provide services to users. These blocks are categorized as follows:
1. Device Block: This block consists of sensors and actuators that interact with the physical environment. Sensors collect data (e.g., temperature, humidity), while actuators perform actions (e.g., turning on a motor, switching a light). These devices are connected to the network to transmit data.
2. Communication Block: This block handles the transmission of data between IoT devices and other system components. It involves various protocols such as HTTP, MQTT, CoAP, and WebSocket, and utilizes communication technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, or cellular networks to ensure seamless data exchange.
3. Services Block: This block provides the logic for device monitoring, device control, data publishing, and device discovery. It acts as an interface that manages the interaction between the physical devices and the application layer, ensuring that data is correctly routed and services are executed.
4. Management Block: This block is responsible for the administration of the IoT system. It includes features like device configuration, firmware updates, security management, and monitoring the health of the connected devices to ensure the system remains operational and secure.
5. Security Block: This is a critical cross-functional block that protects the entire IoT ecosystem. It implements authentication, authorization, data encryption, and integrity checks to prevent unauthorized access and ensure that data remains private and tamper-proof.
6. Application Block: This is the interface through which users interact with the IoT system. It provides dashboards, mobile applications, or web interfaces that display processed data, visualizations, and control options, allowing users to monitor and manage their IoT environment effectively.
Discuss different levels of IOT and write briefly each level pros and cons.
Answer
IoT systems are categorized into six levels based on their complexity, deployment, and data processing capabilities. These levels define how devices, controllers, and cloud services interact.
Level 1: A single device performs sensing, actuation, and data processing. It is simple and low-cost but lacks remote connectivity and scalability.
Level 2: A single node performs sensing and actuation, but data is sent to a remote server for processing. Pro: Centralized data management. Con: High dependency on network connectivity.
Level 3: A single node with a gateway. The gateway acts as an intermediary for data collection and control. Pro: Supports multiple protocols. Con: Gateway becomes a single point of failure.
Level 4: Includes multiple nodes and a gateway. Data is collected and processed in the cloud. Pro: High scalability and advanced analytics. Con: High latency due to cloud dependence.
Level 5: Multiple nodes and gateways with a coordinator node. It supports end-to-end data processing. Pro: Robustness and distributed intelligence. Con: Complex configuration and higher power consumption.
Level 6: A centralized, multi-layered system with local and cloud-based analytics. Pro: Extremely high reliability and real-time decision-making. Con: Very expensive and complex to maintain.
