a

Explain various iterative statements used in Java with examples.

5 marks

Answer

Java provides three primary iterative statements to execute a block of code repeatedly:

  1. for loop: Used when the number of iterations is known.
    for(initialization; condition; increment/decrement) { // body }
  2. while loop: Executes as long as the condition is true, checking before each iteration.
    while(condition) { // body }
  3. do-while loop: Similar to while, but guarantees at least one execution because the condition is checked after the body.
    do { // body } while(condition);
b

Define CLASSPATH. Discuss the role of class path in packages.

5 marks

Answer

CLASSPATH is an environment variable that tells the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and the Java compiler where to look for user-defined classes and packages. When working with packages, the CLASSPATH must point to the root directory containing the package structure. If a class is in package com.example, the CLASSPATH should point to the directory containing the com folder, allowing the compiler to resolve fully qualified names correctly.
