Explain organization structure and functions of a hospital with a neat chart.
Answer
The organizational structure of a hospital is designed to ensure efficient patient care, administrative control, and operational safety. It typically follows a hierarchical model starting from the Governing Body, which sets policies, down to the Hospital Administrator or CEO, who oversees daily operations. The structure is divided into clinical and non-clinical departments.
The organizational chart follows this flow: Governing Body → Hospital Administrator → Medical Director (Clinical Services) and Business Manager (Support Services). Under the Medical Director, departments include Medical Staff, Nursing, Pharmacy, Radiology, and Laboratory. Under the Business Manager, departments include Finance, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Human Resources.
Key functions of a hospital include:
- Provision of comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Maintenance of health records and legal documentation for patient safety.
- Training and education for medical and paramedical staff.
- Research and development to improve clinical outcomes.
- Public health promotion and disease prevention programs.
Explain in detail about different services and staff of hospital.
Answer
Hospital services are categorized into clinical and non-clinical support services. Non-clinical services include Pharmacy, Dietary services, Medical Records, Laundry, Housekeeping, Security, and Engineering/Maintenance.
The hospital staff is composed of multidisciplinary professionals:
- Medical Staff: Includes consultants, specialists, resident doctors, and interns responsible for diagnosis and treatment.
- Nursing Staff: The backbone of patient care, including nursing supervisors, staff nurses, and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) who manage bedside care and medication administration.
- Pharmacy Staff: Pharmacists responsible for procurement, storage, compounding, and dispensing of medications, as well as providing drug information.
- Paramedical Staff: Includes laboratory technicians, radiographers, physiotherapists, and dieticians who provide specialized diagnostic and therapeutic support.
