Answer
Glycogen storage diseases (GSDs) are a group of inherited metabolic disorders caused by enzyme deficiencies involved in the synthesis or degradation of glycogen. This leads to either the accumulation of abnormal amounts of glycogen or the formation of glycogen with abnormal structures in tissues like the liver and muscles.
Write short note on Metabolic changes in Diabetes Mellitus.
Answer
Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycemia due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency. Metabolic changes include increased glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, decreased glucose uptake by peripheral tissues, increased lipolysis leading to ketosis, and increased protein catabolism, resulting in a negative nitrogen balance.
