JNTU B.Pharmacy II PHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING Previous Question Paper (September 2024 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A and Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define Reynolds number.
Answer
The Reynolds number (Re) is a dimensionless quantity used to predict flow patterns in different fluid flow situations. It is defined as the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces, expressed by the formula:
where D is the pipe diameter, v is fluid velocity, ρ is fluid density, and μ is fluid viscosity.
Write the Fannings equation and its importance.
Answer
The Fanning equation for pressure drop due to friction in a pipe is:
where ΔP is the pressure drop, f is the Fanning friction factor, L is pipe length, ρ is fluid density, v is velocity, and D is diameter. Its importance lies in calculating the power requirements for pumps and designing piping systems to overcome frictional losses.
