DDT (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) structure: 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane. Uses: Primarily used as a powerful insecticide. BHC (Benzene hexachloride) structure: 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexachlorocyclohexane. Uses: Used as an agricultural insecticide and in treating scabies.
What is Huckel’s rule? Explain.
Answer
Huckel’s rule states that for a monocyclic planar system to be aromatic, it must contain (4n + 2) π-electrons, where n is an integer (0, 1, 2, ...). This rule explains the stability of aromatic compounds due to the continuous delocalization of π-electrons in a cyclic conjugated system.
