Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad B.Pharmacy II PHARMACEUTICAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY-II Previous Question Paper (September - 2024 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions.
iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Give molecular orbital picture of benzene.
Answer
Benzene consists of a hexagonal ring of six carbon atoms, each sp2 hybridized. Each carbon forms two sigma bonds with adjacent carbons and one sigma bond with a hydrogen atom. The remaining unhybridized p-orbital on each carbon atom overlaps laterally above and below the plane of the ring to form a continuous pi-electron cloud, resulting in delocalization and aromatic stability.
Write the structure and use of BHC.
Answer
BHC (Benzene Hexachloride or Lindane) has the structure of 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexachlorocyclohexane. It is primarily used as an agricultural insecticide and a pediculicide in pharmaceutical preparations for treating scabies and lice.
