JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Pharmacy IV NOVEL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS Previous Question Paper (July - 2023 - R17)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Define controlled drug delivery system with examples.
Answer
A Controlled Drug Delivery System (CDDS) is a formulation that delivers a drug at a predetermined rate, locally or systemically, for a specified period of time to achieve therapeutic effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Examples include transdermal patches, osmotic pumps, and sustained-release tablets.
Give the classification of polymers used to modify the drug release.
Answer
Polymers used to modify drug release are classified as follows:
- Natural Polymers: Proteins (albumin, gelatin) and Polysaccharides (chitosan, alginate, starch).
- Synthetic Polymers: Biodegradable (polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid) and Non-biodegradable (polyvinyl chloride, silicone).
- Semi-synthetic Polymers: Cellulose derivatives (HPMC, ethyl cellulose, sodium CMC).
Define microencapsulation.
