JNTU B.Tech II FLIGHT MECHANICS-I Previous Question Paper (December - 2018 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Mention types of thrust producing engines.
Answer
Thrust producing engines are primarily categorized into air-breathing engines (such as turbojets, turbofans, turboprops, and ramjets) and non-air-breathing engines (such as liquid or solid-fuel rocket engines).
Discuss the thrust variation with speed of aircraft fitted with propeller engine.
Answer
For a propeller-driven aircraft, thrust is generated by the propeller disk. Since power output from the engine is relatively constant over a range of speeds, thrust is inversely proportional to the flight velocity (T = P / V). Consequently, thrust decreases significantly as the aircraft speed increases.
