JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B. Tech III Year AIRCRAFT PROPULSION Previous Question Paper (January/February - 2023 - R18)
Question paper consists of Part A, Part B.
Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions.
In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
What different types of components used in typical gas turbine engine. Explain with Sketches.
Answer
A typical gas turbine engine consists of an intake (diffuser), compressor (axial or centrifugal), combustor, turbine, and nozzle. The intake decelerates incoming air, the compressor raises pressure, the combustor adds heat at constant pressure, the turbine extracts work to drive the compressor, and the nozzle accelerates exhaust gases to produce thrust.
Give various types of aircraft gas turbine engines and give their relative efficiencies.
Answer
Common types include Turbojet (high exhaust velocity, lower propulsive efficiency at subsonic speeds), Turbofan (high bypass ratio, highest propulsive efficiency for subsonic transport), and Turboprop (highly efficient at low speeds/altitudes). Thermal efficiency generally increases with pressure ratio and turbine inlet temperature across all types.
