JNTU B.Tech II FARM MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENTS-I Previous Question Paper (April - 2018 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Define Farm Mechanization.
Answer
Farm mechanization is the application of engineering principles and technology in agricultural operations to improve the efficiency of human labor, increase crop production, and reduce the drudgery of farm work.
Write about the classification of farm machines.
Answer
Farm machines are generally classified based on the power source and the function performed:
- Manual/Hand tools: Operated by human power (e.g., spade, hoe).
- Animal-drawn machines: Powered by draft animals (e.g., bullock-drawn plow).
- Power-operated machines: Powered by engines or electric motors (e.g., tractors, power tillers, combine harvesters).
- Functional classification: Tillage equipment, sowing equipment, inter-cultivation equipment, plant protection equipment, and harvesting/threshing equipment.

A plot of 1000 × 800 m is to be drilled by a corn planter. The planter is having 6 rows with spacing of 120 cm. The speed of travel for planting is 5 kmph. Assume that the time lost in each turn is 10s and the time lost in filling the seed hopper and other interruptions is 10 min per hectare. Take an overlap of 20 cm in each run. Find the field efficiency of the machine.
