Answer PaperPaper Code: 114CEMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define the terms theoretical field capacity, actual field capacity and field efficiency?

2 marks

Answer

Theoretical field capacity is the rate of field coverage that would be obtained if the machine were performing its function 100% of the time at the rated forward speed and covering 100% of its rated width. Actual field capacity is the actual rate of coverage by the machine, taking into account time lost for turning, refueling, and other interruptions. Field efficiency is the ratio of actual field capacity to theoretical field capacity, expressed as a percentage.

b

Calculate the actual field capacity and cost of operation (Rs/ha) for ploughing a 100 × 100 m uncultivable land using a 2 × 30 cm tractor operated M.B plough. The speed of operation is 4 km/h and time loss in each turning is 10%. Assume the fixed and variable cost for tractor and M.B plough assembly is Rs.250/- and Rs. 50/- respectively.

3 marks

Answer

Given: Width = 2 × 30 cm = 0.6 m; Speed = 4 km/h; Time loss = 10% (Field efficiency = 0.9).
Theoretical Capacity = (Width × Speed) / 10 = (0.6 × 4) / 10 = 0.24 ha/h.
Actual Capacity = 0.24 × 0.9 = 0.216 ha/h.
Total Cost = Rs. 250 + Rs. 50 = Rs. 300/h.
Cost of operation = 300 / 0.216 = Rs. 1388.89/ha.

A two bottom desi plough which cuts the furrow in trapezoidal shape has a working depth of 15cm. The top and bottom width of furrow is 42 cm and 14 cm respectively. To pull this implement, a force of 400 N is applied at an inclination of 30° with vertical plane. The speed of operation is 5 km/h. Calculate:

  1. Unit draft (kg/m²)
  2. Size of tractor (in HP) to operate this implement. If the transmission and tractive efficiency is 80% and 30 % respectively.
  3. Area covered in a day of 8 hours. If the time loss during turning is 10%.
