Answer PaperPaper Code: 135CZMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Discuss different Renewable sources of energy with special reference to Indian Context.

2 marks

Answer

Renewable energy sources in India include solar, wind, biomass, small hydro, and geothermal energy. India has significant solar potential due to its tropical location, extensive wind corridors in coastal states like Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, and a vast agricultural base supporting biomass energy. The government promotes these through initiatives like the National Solar Mission to ensure energy security and reduce carbon emissions.

b

What is a fuel cell? What are its main advantages?

3 marks

Answer

A fuel cell is an electrochemical device that converts the chemical energy of a fuel (typically hydrogen) and an oxidant directly into electrical energy through redox reactions. Its main advantages include high efficiency, silent operation, minimal moving parts, and zero or low emissions, as the primary byproduct is water.

c
