JNTU B.Tech II Year FLUID MECHANICS - I Previous Question Paper (November/December - 2017 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
State and explain Pascal’s law.
Answer
Pascal’s law states that the pressure at any point in a fluid at rest is the same in all directions. Mathematically, this is expressed as px = py = pz, where px, py, and pz are the pressures exerted on the faces of a small fluid element in the x, y, and z directions respectively.
Differentiate centre of gravity and centre of pressure.
Answer
The centre of gravity is the point through which the entire weight of a body acts, regardless of orientation. The centre of pressure is the point of application of the resultant hydrostatic force on a submerged surface, which generally lies below the centre of gravity for inclined or vertical surfaces.

A pipe of diameter 300 mm and length 1000 m connects two reservoirs, having difference of water levels as 15 m. Determine the discharge through the pipe. If an additional pipe of diameter 300 mm and length 600 m is attached to the last 600 m length of the existing pipe, find the increase in the discharge. Take f = 0.02 and neglect minor losses.
