Answer PaperPaper Code: 114DQMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.

PART A

125 marks
a

Find the degree of static indeterminacy of the truss shown in Figure 1.

2 marks

Answer

The degree of static indeterminacy (Ds) for a plane truss is calculated using the formula Ds = m + r - 2j, where m is the number of members, r is the number of support reactions, and j is the number of joints.

b

Find the displacement of C by Castigliano’s theorem as shown in Figure 2.

3 marks

Answer

According to Castigliano's second theorem, the displacement Δ at a point is the partial derivative of the total strain energy U with respect to the load P applied at that point: Δ = ∂U/∂P = ∫(M/EI) * (∂M/∂P) dx.

c
