JNTU B.Tech III WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING-I Previous Question Paper (November/December - 2017 - R13)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Define the terms interception loss and base flow.
Answer
Interception loss is the portion of precipitation that is caught by vegetation and evaporates before reaching the ground. Base flow is the delayed flow of groundwater that contributes to the sustained discharge of a stream during periods of no precipitation.
What is hydrograph? Draw a single peaked hydrograph and explain its components?
Answer
A hydrograph is a plot of stream discharge versus time at a specific point. A single-peaked hydrograph consists of: 1) Rising limb (increasing discharge), 2) Crest segment (peak flow), and 3) Recession limb (decreasing discharge as storage is depleted).
What are the different types of aquifers?

When 3.68 million m3 of water was pumped out from an unconfined aquifer of 6.2km2 areal extent, the water table was observed to go down by 2.6m. What is the specific yield of the aquifer? During a monsoon season if the water table of the same aquifer goes up by 10.8m, what is the volume of recharge?
