Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.
Part A
What are the characteristics of protected water supply?
Answer
A protected water supply must be free from pathogenic organisms, clear and colorless, free from offensive odors and tastes, and contain no harmful chemical substances or excessive minerals.
State the uses of intakes and infiltration galleries in water supply.
Answer
Intakes are used to withdraw water from a surface source (like a river or lake) in a controlled manner, while infiltration galleries are horizontal tunnels constructed in water-bearing strata to collect groundwater by gravity flow.
