JNTU B.Tech III Year WATER SUPPLY ENGINEERING Previous Question Paper (November/December - 2018 - R16)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
Give reason for the increase in the consumption of water with the increase in the distribution pressure.
Answer
Increased distribution pressure leads to higher discharge rates from household taps and fixtures. Additionally, it increases the rate of leakage through pipe joints, cracks, and service connections, resulting in higher overall water consumption.
Write short note on confined and unconfined aquifer.
Answer
An unconfined aquifer is an aquifer where the water table is exposed to the atmosphere through permeable overlying soil, allowing the water level to rise and fall freely. A confined aquifer is an aquifer trapped between two impermeable layers (aquitards or aquicludes), where water is under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, causing the water level in a well to rise above the top of the aquifer.
