Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

PART - A

125 marks
a

Find ∇²(xyz).

2 marks

Answer

The Laplacian operator is defined as ∇² = ∂²/∂x² + ∂²/∂y² + ∂²/∂z². For f(x,y,z) = xyz, we have ∂²f/∂x² = 0, ∂²f/∂y² = 0, and ∂²f/∂z² = 0. Therefore, ∇²(xyz) = 0 + 0 + 0 = 0.

b

Evaluate by Green’s Theorem ∮(x²-y)dx+(x+y²)dy where C is x²+y²=1.

3 marks

Answer

By Green's Theorem, ∮(P dx + Q dy) = ∬(∂Q/∂x - ∂P/∂y) dA. Here P = x² - y and Q = x + y². Thus, ∂Q/∂x = 1 and ∂P/∂y = -1. The integral becomes ∬(1 - (-1)) dA = 2 ∬ dA, where ∬ dA is the area of the unit circle x² + y² = 1, which is π(1)². The value of the integral is 2π.

c
