Answer PaperPaper Code: 151AGMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

PART- A

1.a

State Thevenin’s theorem.

2 marks

Answer

Thevenin’s theorem states that any linear, bilateral, active two-terminal network containing multiple energy sources and resistances can be replaced by an equivalent circuit consisting of a single voltage source in series with a single resistor. The equivalent voltage source, known as Thevenin voltage (Vth), is the open-circuit voltage across the terminals, and the equivalent resistance, known as Thevenin resistance (Rth), is the equivalent resistance of the network looking into the terminals with all independent sources replaced by their internal resistances.

1.b

What is meant by apparent power?

2 marks

Answer

Apparent power is the product of the root-mean-square (RMS) voltage and the RMS current in an AC circuit. It represents the total power that appears to be delivered to the load, measured in volt-amperes (VA). It is defined by the formula:

S = V × I

where S is the apparent power, V is the RMS voltage, and I is the RMS current.
