Answer PaperPaper Code: 114AGMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define DFA.

2 marks

Answer

A Deterministic Finite Automaton (DFA) is a 5-tuple (Q, Σ, δ, q₀, F) where Q is a finite set of states, Σ is a finite set of input symbols, δ: Q × Σ → Q is the transition function, q₀ ∈ Q is the start state, and F ⊆ Q is the set of final states. It is deterministic because for every state and input symbol, there is exactly one transition to a next state.

b

Design FA which accepts set of all strings ending with 00.

3 marks

Answer

The FA consists of three states: q₀ (start, no 0s seen), q₁ (seen one 0), and q₂ (final, seen 00). Transitions: δ(q₀, 0) = q₁, δ(q₀, 1) = q₀, δ(q₁, 0) = q₂, δ(q₁, 1) = q₀, δ(q₂, 0) = q₂, δ(q₂, 1) = q₀.
