Determine the current through 6Ω resistor and the power supplied by the current source for the circuit shown in figure 1.
Answer
To determine the current through the 6Ω resistor and the power supplied by the current source, nodal analysis is applied. Let the node voltage above the 6Ω resistor be V. Applying Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) at this node:
Assuming the circuit configuration typically involves a current source I_s in parallel with a resistor and a voltage source, the nodal equation is solved for V. The current through the 6Ω resistor is calculated as I_6 = V / 6. The power supplied by the current source is calculated using P = V_s * I_s, where V_s is the voltage across the current source terminals.
Reduce the network shown in figure 2 to a single loop network by using the source transformation techniques to obtain the current in the 12Ω resistor.
Answer
Source transformation allows for the conversion of a practical voltage source (voltage source in series with a resistor) into a practical current source (current source in parallel with a resistor) and vice versa. To reduce the network to a single loop:
- Identify all practical voltage sources and convert them to equivalent current sources.
- Combine all parallel current sources into a single equivalent current source.
- Combine all parallel resistors into a single equivalent resistance.
- Convert the resulting parallel current source and resistor back into a single voltage source in series with a resistor.
- Apply Ohm's Law in the final single-loop circuit to find the current through the 12Ω resistor: I = V_eq / (R_eq + 12).
Obtain the current through the 1Ω resistor using the node voltage method for the circuit shown in figure 3.
