Define Coefficient of Coupling and find the coefficient of coupling for two coils having L1=2 H, L2=8 H and M= 3H?
Answer
The Coefficient of Coupling (k) represents the fraction of magnetic flux produced by one coil that links with the other coil. It is defined as the ratio of the mutual inductance (M) to the square root of the product of the self-inductances of the two coils (L1 and L2).
Given L1 = 2 H, L2 = 8 H, and M = 3 H:
Draw the impedance triangle and explain each term.
Answer
The impedance triangle is a right-angled triangle used to represent the relationship between resistance, reactance, and impedance in an AC circuit. The horizontal base represents resistance (R), the vertical side represents net reactance (X = XL - XC), and the hypotenuse represents the total impedance (Z).
The terms are defined as follows:
- Resistance (R): The real part of impedance measured in Ohms, representing the opposition to current flow that dissipates energy as heat.
- Reactance (X): The imaginary part of impedance measured in Ohms, representing the opposition offered by inductors (XL) or capacitors (XC) due to energy storage.
- Impedance (Z): The total opposition to current flow in an AC circuit, measured in Ohms, defined as the vector sum of resistance and reactance.
The angle between the impedance vector and the resistance vector is the phase angle (φ), where cos(φ) represents the power factor of the circuit.
