Answer PaperPaper Code: 124CUMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, answer all questions. In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define the various types of distortions in transmission lines.

2 marks

Answer

The primary types of distortion in transmission lines are frequency distortion, which occurs when different frequency components of a signal travel at different phase velocities, and delay (or phase) distortion, which occurs when the phase shift is not a linear function of frequency, causing different components to arrive at different times.

b

Derive relation between VSWR and reflection coefficient.

3 marks

Answer

The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is defined as the ratio of maximum voltage to minimum voltage on the line:

S = V_max / V_min = (1 + |Γ|) / (1 - |Γ|)

where Γ is the reflection coefficient. Solving for Γ, we get:

|Γ| = (S - 1) / (S + 1)
c
