Answer PaperPaper Code: 134CFMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit.

PART - A

125 marks
a

What is self complementing code? Give example.

2 marks

Answer

A code is said to be self-complementing if the 9's complement of a decimal digit can be obtained by simply complementing each bit of the corresponding code word. An example is the Excess-3 code.

b

State and Prove Demorgan’s theorem.

3 marks

Answer

De Morgan's theorems state:

(A + B)' = A' ⋅ B'
(A ⋅ B)' = A' + B'

Proof for (A + B)' = A' ⋅ B': If A+B=0, then (A+B)'=1. If A=0 and B=0, then A'=1 and B'=1, so A'⋅B'=1. If A+B=1, then (A+B)'=0. If A=1 or B=1, then A'=0 or B'=0, so A'⋅B'=0. Since the truth tables match for all inputs, the theorem is proven.
