JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech III COMPUTER ORGANIZATION Previous Question Paper (March - 2024 - R16)
Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
Part A
Give an example for microinstruction format.
Answer
A typical horizontal microinstruction format consists of control fields where each bit corresponds to a specific control signal. For example, a 16-bit format might allocate bits 0-2 for ALU operations, 3-5 for source registers, 6-8 for destination registers, and 9-15 for next-address control.
Define interrupt cycle.
Answer
The interrupt cycle is a hardware-implemented process that occurs at the end of an instruction cycle. The CPU checks for any pending interrupt requests; if one is detected, the current program counter is saved to the stack, the interrupt flag is cleared, and the program counter is loaded with the address of the Interrupt Service Routine (ISR).
