Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.
PART - A
Define RAM and a Bus.
Answer
RAM (Random Access Memory) is a volatile semiconductor memory that allows data to be read from or written to any location in approximately the same amount of time. A Bus is a shared communication system consisting of a set of physical wires or paths used to transfer data, addresses, or control signals between various components of a computer, such as the CPU, memory, and I/O devices.
Define the hardware organization of a digital computer.
Answer
The hardware organization of a digital computer consists of four primary functional units: the Central Processing Unit (CPU), which performs arithmetic and logical operations; the Memory Unit, which stores programs and data; Input/Output (I/O) units, which facilitate communication with the external environment; and the System Bus, which provides the interconnection mechanism for these units to exchange information.
