JNTU B.Tech II NETWORK THEORY Previous Question Paper (April - 2018 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory which carries 25 marks. Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units. Answer any one full question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b, c as sub questions.
Part A
What is a phase sequence and what is its importance in 3-phase AC circuits?
Answer
Phase sequence is the order in which the voltages in the three phases of a 3-phase system reach their maximum positive values. It is important because it determines the direction of rotation of 3-phase induction motors and is essential for the correct parallel operation of generators and transformers.
What are the differences between balanced and unbalanced 3-phase systems?
Answer
In a balanced system, the voltages and currents in all three phases are equal in magnitude and displaced by 120 degrees, resulting in zero neutral current. In an unbalanced system, the magnitudes or phase displacements are unequal, leading to non-zero neutral current and requiring complex analysis using symmetrical components.
What is an initial condition?
