JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech II NETWORK THEORY Previous Question Paper (December - 2018 - R15)
Note: This question paper contains two parts A and B. Part A is compulsory (25 marks). Answer all questions in Part A. Part B consists of 5 Units (50 marks). Answer any one full question from each unit.
Part A
Write the relationships between line and phase currents and line and phase voltages for a delta connected system.
Answer
In a delta-connected system, the line voltage is equal to the phase voltage (VL = Vph), and the line current is root-three times the phase current (IL = √3 Iph), with the line current lagging the phase current by 30 degrees.
What are the reasons for unbalance of phases in a 3-phase system?
Answer
Unbalance in a 3-phase system occurs due to: 1) Unequal impedances in the three phases of the load, 2) Asymmetrical distribution of single-phase loads across the phases, and 3) Fault conditions such as line-to-ground or line-to-line faults.
