B.Tech | III Year | I Semester | R13 | July/August - 2023

Answer PaperPaper Code: 115AEMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 hours

Answer any five questions. Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

125 marks
a

Define pitch factor and winding factor.

2 marks

Answer

Pitch factor (kp) is the ratio of the emf induced in a short-pitched coil to the emf induced in a full-pitched coil. Winding factor (kw) is the product of the pitch factor and the distribution factor (kd), representing the ratio of the actual emf induced in a distributed winding to the emf that would be induced if all coil sides were concentrated in a single slot.

b

Compare concentrated and distributed windings.

3 marks

Answer

Concentrated windings have all turns of a phase wound in a single slot per pole, resulting in higher induced emf but higher harmonic content. Distributed windings spread turns across multiple slots per pole per phase, which reduces harmonic content and improves the waveform shape, although it slightly reduces the total induced emf due to the distribution factor.

c
