JNTU B.Tech III POWER SYSTEMS II Previous Question Paper (August/September - 2024 - R13)
Part A is compulsory. In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit.
Part A
What is the need of double circuit transmission line?
Answer
A double circuit transmission line is used to increase the reliability of power supply, as it provides a redundant path if one circuit fails. It also increases the power transfer capability and reduces the overall line reactance.
What are the advantages of bundled conductor?
Answer
Bundled conductors reduce the geometric mean radius (GMR) of the line, which decreases the line inductance and increases the line capacitance. This leads to a reduction in the surge impedance, an increase in the surge impedance loading (SIL) capacity, and a significant reduction in corona loss and radio interference.
Define the voltage regulation.

A transmission line has an inductance of 0.93 H/km and a capacitance of 0.0078 μF/km. This overhead line is connected to an underground cable having an inductance of 0.155 mH/km and a capacitance of 0.187 μF/km. If a surge of crest 100 kV travels in the cable towards its junction with the line, find the surge transmitted along the line.
