B.Tech | III | III-II | R16 | August/September - 2024

Answer PaperPaper Code: 136FEMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks.

Part A

1.a

Define the stabilization.

2 marks

Answer

Stabilization refers to the process of maintaining the output voltage or current of a power supply or regulator constant despite variations in the input voltage, load current, or ambient temperature. It ensures that the output remains within specified limits, protecting sensitive electronic components from fluctuations and ensuring stable circuit performance.

1.b

Write the ideal specifications of Operational Amplifiers.

3 marks

Answer

The ideal specifications of an operational amplifier are defined by the following characteristics:

  • Infinite Open-Loop Voltage Gain: The gain (AOL) is assumed to be infinite, ensuring that the differential input voltage required to produce any output is zero.
  • Infinite Input Impedance: The input resistance is infinite, which prevents any current from flowing into the input terminals, thereby avoiding loading effects on the source.
  • Zero Output Impedance: The output resistance is zero, allowing the amplifier to act as a perfect voltage source that can drive any load without a drop in output voltage.
  • Infinite Bandwidth: The amplifier can amplify signals of all frequencies equally, from DC to infinity, without any phase shift or attenuation.
  • Zero Offset Voltage: When the input voltage is zero, the output voltage is exactly zero, meaning there is no inherent DC offset error.
  • Infinite Common-Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): The amplifier completely rejects any common-mode noise or signals present at both inputs.
