Answer PaperPaper Code: 136FEMaximum Marks: 75Time: 3 Hours

Note: i) Question paper consists of Part A, Part B. ii) Part A is compulsory, which carries 25 marks. In Part A, Answer all questions. iii) In Part B, Answer any one question from each unit. Each question carries 10 marks and may have a, b as sub questions.

Part A

1.a

What is the need for DC amplifiers?

2 marks

Answer

DC amplifiers are essential for amplifying signals that have very low frequency components or zero frequency (DC) levels, which standard AC-coupled amplifiers would block. They are required in industrial applications such as instrumentation systems, control circuits, and sensors (e.g., thermocouples or strain gauges) where the signal information is contained in the steady-state or slowly varying DC component that must be preserved and amplified for measurement or control purposes.

1.b

Draw the circuit diagram of cascade amplifier.

3 marks

Answer

A cascade amplifier is formed by connecting two amplifier stages in series, where the output of the first stage acts as the input to the second stage. This configuration is typically used to achieve high overall voltage gain.

Vin → [Stage 1] → [Stage 2] → Vout

The circuit diagram consists of two common-emitter transistor stages coupled together. The collector of the first transistor (Q1) is connected to the base of the second transistor (Q2) through a coupling capacitor. Each stage includes its own biasing resistors (R1, R2), collector resistor (Rc), and emitter resistor (Re) bypassed by a capacitor to maintain high gain.
