Main
Use Source Transformation, to find the voltage vx in the circuit shown in figure 1.
Answer
To find the voltage vx using source transformation, follow these steps:
- Convert the current source in parallel with a resistor into an equivalent voltage source in series with the same resistor. The voltage source value is V = I × R and the resistance remains unchanged.
- Combine any series resistors and series voltage sources that result from the transformation to simplify the circuit.
- Continue applying source transformation or series-parallel reduction until the circuit is reduced to a single loop or node.
- Apply Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL) or Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) to the simplified circuit to solve for the unknown voltage vx.
Calculate the Form Factor and Peak Factor for the following waveform shown in figure 2.
Answer
The Form Factor and Peak Factor are defined based on the RMS value, average value, and peak value of the waveform.
The Form Factor is defined as the ratio of the RMS value to the average value:
The Peak Factor (or Crest Factor) is defined as the ratio of the peak (maximum) value to the RMS value:
To calculate these for a given waveform, first determine the RMS value by calculating the square root of the mean of the squared instantaneous values over one period, and the average value by calculating the mean of the absolute instantaneous values over one half-cycle.
For the circuit shown in figure 3, find v1 and v2.
